Ladycross Infant and Nursery School

Special Needs

We believe that all children should make good progress and their needs should be met in school. This includes children who may have specific needs, including medical issues, problems with learning, speech and language, behaviour and disabilities. Our teaching and the curriculum include all children, whatever their ability. We sometimes may assess a child and plan out some more specific support. This might be some further small group work extra to the usual class work, or even some one to one support from a trained adult. Staff will talk to parents about specific concerns and involve them in planning how to meet a child’s needs. Sometimes we need to involve other professionals such as speech therapists or behaviour support staff. This is to ensure we are doing as much as possible to give each child the best chance of making good progress.

We have a Special Needs co-ordinator who has a recognised qualification in this field, as well as staff trained in speech and language support, autism, child bereavement, physiotherapy and medical issues.
