Year 1 Spellings and Tricky Words

Spellings

Please click on the link for the appropriate term below to find  your child's spellings. They should know if they are in "Shooting Stars" or "Curious Comets" group - however, if you are unsure please ask your class teacher. Spellings tests are on a Tuesday. We will test a selection of 5 spellings each week from the list and will dojo them home so that you know the results. They will keep the same spellings all term to consolidate their learning and move their spellings into their "long term memory". Thank you for all your support with spellings :-)

Sound (phoneme) flashcards

Please click on the appropriate links below for a copy of the phoneme flashcards your child is bringing home to practise (the lack of Phase 4 is deliberate as this a word building phase with phonemes the children already know). Please practise these as often as possible. There are two copies of each phoneme so that you can play Matching Pairs, Snap and other games. If you feel your child is ready to move onto the next set of flashcards then please let their class teacher know. Please note that they can only be moved on when they know each phoneme off by heart and have shown this to a member of staff - it can sometimes take children a little longer to showcase their knowledge to a staff member than at home. Please click on the link below for a copy of the Common Exception Words (sometimes known as CEWs or Tricky Words) that your child is bringing home to practise. Please practise these as often as possible. There are two copies of each word so that you can play Matching Pairs, Snap and other games. Please note that they can only be moved on when they know each word by sight (with no sounding out or help required) and have shown this to a member of staff - it can sometimes take children a little longer to showcase their knowledge to a staff member than at home.
