We are proud to be a school where children are encouraged to learn in different ways and think for themselves. So we have ensured that the the curriculum is very carefully planned by all staff with this in mind.

It is taught through topics that last for around 6 weeks. We believe that children learn in many different ways and so plan topics that start with an exciting visit, visitor or activity. The children are then eager and enthusiastic to get involved. They show a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning.
We develop ‘Wonder walls’ to focus on asking questions and the process of learning. As the topics progress, more learning is added to tell the story of learning from the beginning to the end of a topic. The best learners ask the best questions. The slideshow below shows some of our wonder walls. Links between subjects are made, so if history is all about the Great Fire of London, the children will develop their learning through drama, writing, art, ICT, design-technology and geography too.
Activities are designed to be stimulating and engaging so that all children can take part. Speaking and listening are valued as children discuss, act out and explore their understanding. We know that all children learn in different ways, so ensure that learning is varied and active. We also plan our curriculum to prepare children for life in modern Britain through a wide variety of experiences and visits and visitors. We believe they should experience positive role models from a wide variety of different backgrounds, cultures, faiths, beliefs and ways of life, including different families.
For more information about our curriculum, visit the year groups page on this tab to view the curriculum map. Alternatively, ask your child’s class teacher at one of our many parental engagement opportunities.
Our children learn to read through a variety of methods, one of them being Rocket Phonics. They learn the sounds that letters make and follows a carefully planned sequence of activities, building up their knowledge of sounding out. The programme runs from nursery through to the end of year 2. If you would like more details please contact the literacy co-ordinator.

The Brain and Learning
At Ladycross, the children are taught about the importance of being a good learner. They understand that the brain is part of learning and to learn, they need to be happy and relaxed, have fun and keep hydrated. Our curriculum reflects the exciting activities children do. If they are stimulated and having fun, they will learn more. If they eat good food and drink water, they will also be ready to learn. When they are relaxed and not under pressure, they are receptive to new things.
