What is exciting about London and other capital cities?

 

In maths we will be learning all about multiplication and division. In this unit children will be dividing by 2, 5 and 10 and learning about odd and even numbers.  We will be dividing by grouping and by sharing. We will also use related multiplication facts to solve division problems. 
In writing this half term we will continue to use The Write Stuff approach. We will start the term by using the The Great Fire of London as a stimulus to writing our own diary about the Great Fire of London.
In phonics we will be focussing on learning spelling rules for contractions and the suffixes /er/. /est/. /ing/, /ed/.  We will also be learning the different ways /eer/ and /air/ can be represented.
In science we will be exploring the question 'What conditions are best for growing plants?'
In history we will be exploring the question 'How did the Great Fire affect London?'.   The children will be fully involved in an exciting and stimulating drama workshop by dressing in costume and telling the story through narration, mime, chant, music and dance when Partake theatre company visit to start our topic.

In art we will be exploring sculpture.  We will be working with clay and making our own 3D clay house tile by using basic skills for shaping and joining clay.

In computing we will be exploring data handling.  We will be creating our own digital Venn Diagrams.
In RE we will be thinking about how and why we celebrate special and sacred times.  We will be exploring how Christians, Muslims and Jewish people celebrate special times. 
In PE this term we will be developing our bat and ball skills and circuit training. 
In PSHE we will be learning about keeping safe including learning about Internet Safety, road safety and staying safe around medicines.  We will also be learning about the parts of the body and recapping on the PANTs rule.
In music we will be learning about instruments of the orchestra and practicing identifying these within a piece of music.
